Public Hearing - Pesticides and proposed Rockland County Law
Scientific Studies Show Lawn Pesticides Can:
- Increase the risks of cancer and asthma in children
- Poison dogs and increase their risk of cancer
- Harm wildlife and contaminate drinking water

Something Can Be Done About It and you can be there to make it happen!

I have heard back from Rose Marie Raccioppi. Rose Marie has worked together with Connie Coker on the Pesticide Act and she has been involved in developing the management plan which the county, and anyone(!), can adopt to manage their lawns and garden pesticide free.
Rose Marie confirmed that we can contact the legislators via phone, e-mail, or by sending a letter to convey the importance of their support to the Pesticide Act. “It is critical that each legislator know that their is a public outcry for the well being of our children.”
So, go ahead - send something to your legislator (http://www.co.rockland.ny.us/Legislature/legislators.htm) and feel good about supporting this act in case you cannot make it.

The Rockland County Nontoxic Land Maintenance Act passed in June, 2008 is currently in effect. As a member of the Orangetown Environmental Committee I will be making a presentation on January 24, 2009 in preparation of presenting a request to the Town Board for a similar nontoxic land maintenance policy. We are at a significant crossroad of consideration. A new approach to golf course maintenance is being called upon - one that puts safety of the community first!
