Earth Day celebrates 40 year 2010! It started out as a protest, initiated by Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. “For the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010, the world is in greater peril than ever, but there is also unprecedented opportunity to build a new future.” “On April 22 ¦1970¦, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment.” (Earth Day Network)
