Why not visit the indoor farmers’ market?

Found thanks to the Rockland County Tourism calendar:

Rockland’s only winter indoor farmers’ market is back! The Palisades Indoor Winter Farmers’ Market opens Saturday, February 6. The market will be held every Saturday through May 15, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Palisades Community Center located at 675 Oak Tree Road in Palisades, NY.

Housed in a charming schoolhouse built in 1870, shoppers will find seasonal fruits and vegetables, chicken, eggs and meat, pies, cupcakes, pickles, cheese, breads, nuts, jams, fair trade coffee and more from regional farmers and vendors.

The Great American Cleanup in Rockland County, which is coordinated by Keep Rockland Beautiful and many local cleanup leaders, is Rockland’s biggest annual community improvement event.

The dates for this year’s cleanup is between April 17-25 2010.

In 2009, there were over 300 cleanups registered, around 4000 volunteers involved, and they bagged up to 40 tons of trash!

More information or how to participate, please visit the Keep Rockland Beautiful website.

HELP!

As you may have noticed, this website is very seldom updated. The reason is that the Rockland Green Map is without a local network or group.

WOULD YOU be interested in creating a new group in Rockland, and continue to develop the map and maybe even maintaining the website you are more than welcome to contact us.

More information what this is all about can be found here or at the Green Map System website.

Presentation on January 24, a non-toxic Orangetown?

From Rose Marie Raccioppi:

The Rockland County Nontoxic Land Maintenance Act passed in June, 2008 is currently in effect.

As a member of the Orangetown Environmental Committee I will be making a presentation on January 24, 2009 in preparation of presenting a request to the Town Board for a similar nontoxic land maintenance policy. We are at a significant crossroad of consideration. A new approach to golf course maintenance is being called upon - one that puts safety of the community first!

On January 24-25 the Knickerbocker Ice Festival at Rockland Lake will mark the beginning of the celebration of Henry Hudson´s journey up the Hudson River 400 years ago.
We are about to embark upon the 400th Anniversary of Henry Hudson’s famous sail upon the ‘Half Moon’ in 1609.

We are proud to report that the statewide kickoff of the Quadricentennial will be right here in Rockland - the upcoming Knickerbocker Ice Festival at Rockland Lake, Sat.-Sun., January 24-25.

The best way to stay informed about the many fun events in Rockland is to visit www.rockland.org and sign up for our email updates. There is so much to do right in your own backyard — you’ll be able to invite friends and family to visit because the more you know the more you can share!
